Letter from Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR

Newly Elected President of Franciscan University of Steubenville

Thank you so much for your kind words of support for my new position at Franciscan University of Steubenville. While this will be a tremendous change for me, I trust in the Lord’s providence and look forward to what God is going to do. I need your prayers more than ever and ask that you would please offer a Mass and a decade of the rosary for me and the Franciscan University Family. Thank you and know of my prayers. Come Holy Spirit!

Come Holy Spirit!

On Tuesday, May 21, 2019  the Board of Trustees at Franciscan University of Steubenville selected me to be the seventh president of the University. I am humbled by their trust in me and with deep confidence in God’s providence accepted their invitation. Over the coming days and weeks, I will be moving into my new position at the University.

I must say that my new appointment was quite a curve ball and not necessarily part of my plan. However, as a Franciscan Friar I believe that God works in and through my vow of obedience.  and I believe this is the Lord’s will and I trust that His plan is so much better than ours.

The question I have been asked most often during this process is what will become of The Ministry of the Wild Goose. The short answer is this ministry will continue to move forward as God continues to lead us. With this ministry, we have always tried to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and we will continue to do that in the future.

The most significant change will be my travel schedule. For the last seven years I have traveled full time preaching at conferences, retreats and parishes across the US and Canada but this will no longer be possible. I will be much more limited in my ability to accept invitations, particularly in this next year as I learn more about what will be required of me at the University.

This leads me to one of the most difficult aspects of this change, the realization that I won’t be able to be present to many of the events that I had committed to over the next many months. I wish this were not the case, but there is no way around it.  The Wild Goose Team will be reaching out to all of the groups that will be impacted by this change in my ministry. I can’t express how sorry I am about this.

Finally, as The Ministry of the Wild Goose moves forward, I am extremely excited that we have finished filming for our new series Metanoia. This will be a follow up to The Wild Goose, and we expect to release the series later this year. It is wonderful to see God’s hand in all the details of this new project.

Again, thank you so much for your prayers and continued support. I look forward to what God has in store for us all. Do know of my prayers and please pray for The Ministry of the Wild Goose as well as Franciscan University.

God’s blessings,

Fr. Dave
